Questioned this Monday, the Italian coach of OM explained the departures this summer of Pau Lopez, Jonathan Clauss and Jordan Veretout.

OM’s Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi said on Monday that the club had “need for radical change” this summer, which explains the number of movements recorded on the transfer market.

“I am very happy with the transfer window, in terms of arrivals as well as departures. We have changed a lot. It was not easy to imagine so many movements in a single transfer window.”the Italian technician first declared during a press briefing. “I was the one who decided that many players had to leave. Veretout, Clauss, Pau Lopez or Mbemba are very good players, but I think that OM needed a radical change.”he added.

The four players mentioned by De Zerbi, undisputed starters last season, had been invited this summer to find a new club and were training away from the main group. Clauss quickly joined Nice, Pau Lopez signed for Girona and Veretout was transferred to Lyon as a joker a few days after the end of the transfer window. Mbemba, for his part, is still under contract with OM. The club’s management does not plan to see him wear the Marseille jersey this season.

“Today, the team is very different, with many young players, who are a heritage for the club and who will stay several years in Marseille. We worked for the future of the club”explained De Zerbi.
