Two wings, two wheels – A bicycle highway will be built near the Bouconne forest thanks to a former lane reserved for the A380

You won’t have to drive an A380 to be able to travel on this very special road. To the northwest of Toulouse, a former large-gauge itinerary (IGG) runway that was used to transport exceptional convoys transporting A380 parts will become a giant cycle path. These enormous roads were last used by Airbus in 2020.

Located in the communes of Daux and Montaigut-sur-Save, and running alongside the Bouconne forest, this future 6.5 km greenway will be redeveloped to better accommodate cyclists who will be able to enjoy a truly secure space, rare in the area, in which to ride.

Several facilities planned for cyclists

“We are creating a real network of cycle paths between the peripheral towns and the Toulouse metropolitan area, where the most traffic jams are concentrated and where the modal shift can be the greatest,” explained Sébastien Vincini, President of the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council.

The work on this road, built in 2004 to allow the aviation giant to transport large parts of the A380 to Blagnac, will last until September 17. The investment amounts to 600,000 euros. Several other developments are planned by(…) - 20minutes
