Young French people aged 18 to 25 are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence chatbots for their daily needs, ranging from searching for information to discussions. A recent study reveals an increasing use of these tools, disrupting habits and redefining their relationship with digital technology.
Massive and rapid adoption of generative AI
In just six months, the use of generative AI among young people has doubled, according to a survey conducted by the Heaven agency, taken up by Les Echos. Today, 39% of 18-25 year olds use these tools daily, compared to 21% in June 2024. The study also shows that 86% of them, divided between 81% of women and 92% of men, have already used artificial intelligence.
The most popular chatbot remains ChatGPT, used by 76% of respondents. Behind him, we find MyAI from Snap (47%), Gemini from Google (37%), and others like Copilot from Microsoft or Character.AI. This rise in power is explained by the diversity of uses, in particular the search for information, mentioned by 89% of young people, but also by the help provided to studies and work, such as the correction and translation of texts. Emmanuel Berne, author of the study, emphasizes that these tools can also reduce educational inequalities by making complex subjects easier to understand.
The use of chatbots is not limited to utilitarian tasks. The study shows that one in four young people now use them to chat, and 45% say they are in favor of regular exchanges with these artificial intelligences. “ Voice modes that imitate emotions, like those of ChatGPT, could remove some barriers », Explains the study. Although we are still far from fictional scenarios like the film “Her”, these interactions mark a turning point in the perception of AI, now seen as interlocutors rather than simple tools.
A technology seen as essential… and worrying
Furthermore, young people seek out chatbots for various advice: professional behavior, relational attitudes, seduction, and even ideological orientation. This development reflects a growing confidence in AI as a general advice interface.
-Despite this enthusiasm, the adoption of generative AI arouses ambivalent feelings. If 86% of young people think that AI will improve their daily lives, 68% also believe that it will replace certain professions. Nevertheless, the majority agrees on one strong idea: artificial intelligence will become “ essential for everyone ».
The expectations of young people live up to the possibilities of these technologies: making people rich, predicting the economy, curing illnesses, or even providing reliable information. In a context where screen time is increasingly contested between social networks and digital tools, generative AI takes a prominent place, announcing a major transformation in their uses and behaviors.
