Outraged by the decision of the Spanish Higher Sports Council to authorize Dani Olmo and Victor to play, Atlético de Madrid communicated on Thursday its “deep concern” about this unprecedented situation. Multiple clubs in Spain see this as an injustice.

The case of Dani Olmo – and Pau Victor – continues to be talked about across the Pyrenees. The decision of the Spanish Higher Sports Council to authorize Barça to replay the two players on a provisional basis was very poorly received by several clubs in the country.

The latest one? Atlético de Madrid, which published a scathing press release this Thursday evening. Madrilenians expressed their “deep concern” about “a decision [qui] endangers the current system, calling into question the rules of the game”, here economic.

“The sports law itself includes and protects the economic control of La Liga and, however, with this resolution it is put in danger,” regrets Atlético. “Our club, like all members of LaLiga until this resolution, has respected the rules of economic control and we will continue to do so. In order to be competitive at the level we have reached in recent years, we have decided to proceed to various capital increases, despite the enormous effort that this entails.”

Many Spanish clubs angry

The press release concludes by assuring that “this government intervention creates a very dangerous precedent, because it opens the door to violations of the rules and the repetition of serious errors of the past.” Before Atlético, Athletic Bilbao spoke of a “grotesque” situation, where Las Palmas denounced “a decision which seriously endangers the integrity of the competition”. Valladolid, for its part, spoke of a “serious comparative disadvantage”, which “creates a dangerous precedent”.

On Wednesday evening, Barcelona was authorized to replay Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, whose licenses had been canceled by LaLiga for lack of sufficient financial guarantees. A provisional measure which “suspenses the cancellation of the licenses” in question and also maintains their validity until the outcome of the dispute. They will therefore be able to return to competition this Sunday against Real Madrid, in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, and also in La Liga, where they have just been registered.
