NFL: Eagles coach Nick Sirianni comes to AJ Brown’s defense

Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni came to AJ Brown’s defense Tuesday, saying he’s “totally OK” with the star wide receiver reading a book between shifts on the ground. He also wanted to put an end to speculation about what was behind Brown’s actions.

Sirianni’s comments were made Tuesday during a radio appearance on 94.1 WIP after Brown sparked controversy by reading Jim Murphy’s book “Inner Excellence” on the bench during the Eagles’ victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Sirianni tried to put things into perspective. “Some guys pray between games, others do meditation between games. AJ reads between the two. All these guys have to do is make sure they stay focused to be able to give a big effort when their time comes to play. I fully encourage them to do so. »

Brown caught one of three passes in his direction, leading some observers to wonder if he was doing so out of frustration.

“People are quick to judge and jump to the conclusion: ‘Oh, he must be unhappy. Or `To me it’s lazy’. »

“Everyone needs to understand why they are doing this before passing judgment. Because this man, AJ Brown, is a wonderful, wonderful person. The man AJ Brown is the best receiver – and I say this without hesitation – the best receiver this city has ever seen… It’s hard for me to see people picking on him without doing the proper research to know who this man is and what he does in the first place. »

Brown said he brings the book to every game and reads it because there are passages that bring him a sense of peace. And no, he wasn’t reading it because he was unhappy. “I wasn’t frustrated at all. I thought that was probably what you were all thinking. Why do you always think I’m frustrated? Damn. I like to read. »

Brown went on to social media to further explain why reading during games works for him. “I use it to refocus despite what may happen, good or bad, in the match,” he wrote on X. “People tend to create controversies when they don’t know the truth . »

All the attention has nevertheless been very good for the book’s sales. “Inner Excellence” which took the top spot on Amazon’s trending list after being ranked 523,497th.
