A former coach of the France team thinks that OM will not end up champions.
Summer recruitment showed the ambitions of theMarseille Olympic. With the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as well as Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, and Adrien Rabiot, the Phocaeans aim to reposition themselves among the title contenders. Currently second in Ligue 1, 7 points behind the Parisian leader, they seem determined to win a trophy which they haven't won in many years.
However, to reach the top, they will have to face tough competition from AS Monaco and especially Paris Saint-Germain. Undefeated since the start of the season, the Parisians are on track to win a new title, their 11th in 13 years. However, OM remains in the race. With a 5-1 victory against Le Havre at the Vélodrome, Marseille shows its potential for the competition. However, this is not the opinion of the former coach of the French team, Raymond Domenech.
“They will not be champions. There's no point looking ahead. They can look, but they won't see what's there. Them, their championship is against Lille and Monaco.“
Only the Champions League for OM?
For almost 15 years, Olympique de Marseille no longer won Ligue 1. However, the Marseille club has often been close to this feat, notably in 2013 and 2022. Despite the prestige of OM, the club have settled for second place four times since their last title. Their objective is clear with their recruitment: to become real contenders for the title.
Surpassing Paris Saint-Germain is not an easy task. Since their first title under the Qatari era in 2013, only two clubs have managed to dethrone PSG: AS Monaco in 2017 and LOSC in 2021. OM aspire to do the same, but for the former coach of the Blues, Raymond Domenech, these hopes seem in vain. According to him, their “title” would be to finish in second place, which would guarantee qualification for the Champions League.
