Landed in the drill in August 2023 from Raja Casablanca, Mahmoud Bentayg is now playing at Zamalek SC after a loan made last summer. Now no longer in ASSE's plans, its adventure in Egypt could continue this winter during the transfer window.

A mixed passage at ASSE

With Laurent Batlles at its head, Saint-Étienne clearly left a place of choice for Mahmoud Bentayg after the departure of Niels Nkounkou. A professional piston, the 25-year-old Moroccan lost his chances of winning when Laurent Batlles left. Less used under Olivier Dall'Oglio, Mahmoud Bentayg frequented the bench more than the pitches in Ligue 2. If he showed good things against during the play-offs for accession to the elite, the latter did not appear clearly more in the plans of the new leaders.

Loaned this summer to Zamalek SC with an option to buy, a move to a less demanding championship was the perfect opportunity to regain some playing time.

ASSE press release: “Mahmoud Bentayg (24 years old) takes charge of Egypt and Zamalek SC, a major club in the Egyptian Premier League, which he joins in the form of a loan with an option to buy.”

A departure to be expected in the transfer window?

A generally successful operation for the left back. Because Mahmoud Bentayg satisfies the Egyptian club. With nine matches played in all competitions, the Stéphanois seems to fully fit into Christian Gross's plans. Fast, technical and efficient, Mahmoud Bentayg even won the CAF Super Cup last September (victory against Al-Ahly).

According to information from FootMercato, Mahmoud Bentayg would be closer than ever to a definitive departure from ASSE. The 25-year-old full-back could see the purchase option of one million euros included in his contract be exercised by his new managers. If the Egyptian club “wishes to renegotiate the payment terms with AS Saint-Etienne”Mahmoud Bentayg also interested other clubs.

The player does not have “not yet definitively decided for its future.”
