It was expected and it is now official: former captain of RC Lensminority shareholder of the club, Fofana School made his return to Ligue 1. He signed up with Stade Rennes.
His experience in Saudi Arabia therefore only lasted around 18 months. Arriving at Al Nassr for 23 million euros in 2023 from Racing, he was subsequently loaned to Al-Ettifaq. He committed until 2029 for a transfer which would have cost around 20 million euros. A little roomy, the Breton club which took advantage of the close relations between the player and Arnaud Pouille, introduced some references to his Lensois past in its officialization video, to be found at the bottom of the page.
School Fofana: « Discussions with Arnaud Pouille and Frederic Massara made the difference »
The player comments for his part in a communication from Stade Rennes: “ I am very happy to join Stade Rennais and start 2025 with this new challenge. I have always observed Stade Rennais carefully, it is a club that I have often met, it counts in this championship. The discussions with Arnaud Pouille and Frederic Massara made the difference. They told me about the project and the expectations of the shareholders. The message was strong and the decision was very simple afterwards. I'm very excited about starting, there are talented players at Rennes and I think the club is out of place. We will see the chance to be able to string together matches and demonstrate that the start of the season was below the club's potential. I hope that we will be able to reverse the trend very quickly. »
