While the growing enthusiasm around the Mastiffs is noticed, the average attendance displayed by LOSC at mid-season is the fourth highest in Ligue 1 at mid-season.
The French championship floundered throughout the off-season, battered by the eternal soap opera of its domestic TV rights. The latter were finally obtained by DAZN, whose policy never ceased to be talked about during the first six months of competition, without convincing the usual observers of Ligue 1. In total, a number of 400,000 subscribers is mentioned in the press, far from initial expectations (€1.5M). This contributes to the invisibility of national games on the territory, even though the stadiums have never been so full.
The winter break, synonymous with mid-season, is an opportunity to take an initial assessment of the attendances of each Ligue 1 resident. LOSC, fourth in the league, is also in this position with regard to the ranking of average attendances. with 41,148 spectators. Only Paris Saint-Germain (47,619), OL (52,461) and OM (63,310) are ahead of the Lille team. The latter is also at a higher pace than that followed last season, during which 39,942 Lille residents gathered week after week in the aisles of the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre Mauroy. Its occupancy rate thus increases from 81 to 84%. In this area, LOSC is not the most successful club, while eight teams out of eighteen play in stadiums more than 90% full.
In terms of numbers, the majority of clubs welcome more and more audiences, like Olympique de Marseille (+3,000 approximately) and Olympique Lyonnais (+7,000 approximately), first and second in this ranking. Even AS Monaco is seeing its attendance skyrocket with more than one in two places occupied at the Stade Louis-II, from 46 to 57%.
