Cédric Bakambu looked back on his time at Olympique de Marseille with a mixture of regrets and gratitude, regretting not having had more time to establish himself. However, he has good memories of this experience, in particular thanks to the passion and commitment of Pablo Longoria, whom he considers to be a key player in his Marseille adventure.
In an interview with Eurosport, Cedric Bakambu spoke about his time at Olympique de Marseille, an experience marked by ups and downs. Although his stay was relatively short, the striker Betis Sevilla expresses regret for not having had more time to fully establish himself: “I would have gained momentum during the second season”he confides. However, despite this frustration, he emphasizes that his time at OM was not a failure, nor catastrophic.
Bakambu remembers the good times, including the Conference League semi-final and second place in Ligue 1. “I scored a few goals (4) and provided 2 assists”he adds proudly. For him, this period was marked by great emotions and he left the club on bad terms. He also thanks OM for offering him this opportunity, saying that he has positive memories.
Bakambu doesn't hold a grudge against Longoria!
The Congolese international also took the opportunity to greet Pablo Longoria, the Marseille president, whom he describes as a passionate and deeply involved man. “He is close to his players, managers and supporters. He does things thoroughly”testifies Bakambu, who was particularly marked by the president's commitment. Even before his arrival at OM, Longoria had traveled to Paris to meet him in person, a gesture which weighed in the balance during his decision to join Marseille.
“When you meet the president directly, it tips the scales in his favor”he says. Even after his signing, Longoria made himself available and took the time to meet Bakambu's parents for a photo at the stadium, a symbolic gesture that strengthened the relationship of trust between them. Bakambu concludes: “I can never speak ill of Pablo Longoria”.
In the end, despite regrets about his lack of playing time, Bakambu has excellent memories of his time in Marseille, both on a sporting and human level.
