Like every week, the Sainté Night Club has arranged to meet you this Monday evening. The opportunity to return to the derby played on Sunday. Excerpts.
A frustrating Derby
Antoine Chirat (Onze Mondial) : ” I'm very frustrated. There is a bit of disappointment, as you said, but I had so many fears and apprehensions before this match – that it was going very, very badly for ASSE – that it somewhat eased my pain at the time. final whistle. I was really afraid that it would turn out like it would against Nice. In the end, we only lost 1-0, and we had all these opportunities in the second half which allowed us to believe in it, which could have allowed us to bring back the draw. Of course, there is a lot of frustration, disappointment, but all that is somewhat attenuated on the one hand by a rather satisfactory collective performance overall and, on the other hand, because, as I said , I was terribly afraid that we would get really screwed there.”
No it's not War
Joss Randall : “We are far from certain derbies of yesteryear, whether in terms of aggression or body language, before and after the match. But hey, what did we expect from a team made up mainly of young players, most of them mercenaries, who arrived this summer? In fact, none of them had played in a derby before. You don't learn derby culture in four months, let's be clear. For them, it was above all a football match. So, I didn't have excessive expectations about it. These are supporters' expectations. Everyone says that derby is war. No, the derby is not war, it is above all a football match.
I think it will take time before we find this approach to derby again. Even among the Lyonnais, I didn't feel it. This approach has disappeared, in particular because it has been two years since there has been a derby, and because the players are passing. I'm sorry, but at kick-off, there were no Stéphanois who had really experienced this, apart from Petrot, a little, in the youth teams. We were missing that aspect. So, I wasn't expecting anything in particular at that level. So, I prefer to concentrate on what I saw on the ground. There, I'm very divided, 50-50: on the one hand, a real disappointment because it's a derby and this defeat hurts more than another, especially because I think we could have avoided lose. That, for me, is the disappointment. On the other hand, if we take a step back and get out of the derby atmosphere, there are 2 or 3 elements on which we can rely.
Textor used the term war zone to describe the atmosphere he saw around the stadium, to say how stupid he is to dig up the fleet.”
A lack of quality for ASSE
Antoine Chirat (Onze Mondial): “We believe in it as long as we stay in contact, as long as we stay at 1-0, we can believe in it. Especially since there are a few elements that make us think that we may have a little luck with us. There is this post from Lacazette, this big opportunity missed by Fofana in the first half on his left foot. There is also this goal refused for a handball from Mikautadze. At one point, we say to ourselves: that's going to do it, we're going to pull off a heist. This match reminded me a little of a derby from the past where Mathieu Debuchy equalized at the end of the match. We suffered quite a bit, but we managed to get a draw which did us a lot of good at the time. And there, I said to myself, maybe it's still a derby where we'll get a point.
But unfortunately, there is too little quality in this team. We lack a lot of qualities to make real differences and obtain real opportunities. There weren't many real chances in this match. And, it must be said, to score goals, you need chances, and our attackers are not killer enough. We saw Sissoko’s action – we’ll come back to that, I think. To have an opportunity like this in a match where chances are so rare… we can't afford to miss it. When we see that we are capable of missing these kinds of chances in this type of match, unfortunately we cannot hope for better.”
