Loaned last summer to Stade de Reims, Gabriel Moscardo has still not played a single minute this season and PSG is starting to get seriously annoyed by this situation.
Luka Elsner, the Reims coach, has been swearing for two weeks now that Gabriel Moscardo is ready to play, but still has not given him a single minute. Victim of structural problems in his hip and pelvis at the start of the season according to his coach, the Brazilian defensive midfielder had been sidelined for several weeks, from the end of August to mid-October, but has now been training normally for a month.
Present on the Reims match sheets for three matches, Moscardo did not come into play against Auxerre, Brest and more recently Toulouse. Three matches lost by Reims during which the Champagne team never led, which can partially explain why Luka Elsner did not bring the Brazilian into play.
But during the last match against Toulouse, the Slovenian coach offered his first minutes in Ligue 1 to young Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Bamba (20 years old), with a rather defensive profile. An entry into play lasting a few seconds which could have symbolically concerned Moscardo, but that was not the case.
PSG could break Moscardo's loan in January
This situation unsurprisingly displeases PSG, which was counting on this loan to Reims for Moscardo to accumulate playing time and become familiar with European and French football in particular in a less competitive environment than in Paris. Elsner also used the competition argument two weeks ago to justify the fact that Moscardo has not yet played.
According to L'Equipe, PSG is not satisfied with the Brazilian's playing time and could break his loan this winter in order to loan him to another club for the second part of the season. If nothing has been decided yet, PSG will in any case be able to cancel the loan without paying any fees according to the Brazilian press (see the article linked below).
Last summer, the choice was made to favor France and Ligue 1 and not to send Moscardo back to the country. We can assume that in the event of a new loan, PSG will still favor a French club, but will take care to ensure that the club in question wants to play the former Corinthians, who only played 80 minutes since the start of the 2024 calendar year and his foot operation.
