This Sunday, ASSE welcomed Montpellier for a duel at the top of the U19 championship, group D. The Stéphanois faced a team which was slightly ahead of them in the standings (3rd against 4th) and hoped to extend their good momentum of recent weeks, having collected 4 points out of 6 possible before the break. Progress of the meeting
The Greens begin the meeting with a bang. From the 8th minute, Issam Cheick (our photo) opened the scoring, quickly followed by Sonny Yvars who doubled the lead. Nadir El Jamali then scored the third goal, bringing the lead to 3-0 in less than 20 minutes! However, Montpellier reacted quickly. The visitors first reduced the score thanks to an own goal from Fodé Camara, then returned to 3-2 with a goal from their number 11. Just before half-time, Rayan Boukadida gave the team some breathing room. ASSE, allowing the Greens to return to the locker room with a 4-2 lead in this match full of twists and turns.
The second half saw Frédéric Dugand's players struggle to preserve their advantage. Montpellier returned to 4-3 in the 47th minute, with a second own goal from Kevin Pedro. The Stéphanois continue to suffer and end up conceding the equalizer in the 70th minute. Despite their efforts, the Greens had to be content with sharing the points, with some regrets given their initial lead.
