Inter Miami boss Tata Martino has indicated it would be difficult – but not impossible – to complete a 2025 transfer deal for Neymar Junior.
The Brazil international is reportedly looking to leave Saudi Arabia in 2025 despite returning from a serious knee injury with Al Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League side are expected to negotiate hard as they retain an option to extend his contract from its expiry in June, until 2026. Former club Santos are reportedly working on a deal to bring him back to Brazil despite rumors of interest from Miami.
Messi and Neymar in Miami?
Martino laughed off suggestions Neymar would buy a house in Miami, which would be a hint at a move despite his own link to the player at Barcelona alongside his old friend Lionel Messi.
“With Messi and the boys already there, anything can happen. What I can't imagine is how this would play out if the league didn't make the salary issue more flexible. Writing or saying this in the media is fine, nothing happens, it has no consequences, how would the implementation be? The reality is that if there's one thing MLS has, it's strict rules that cannot be broken unless MLS decides to change them. »
Martino's comments refer to the salary cap imposed on clubs by MLS, which would force Neymar to accept a monumental pay cut to join Inter Miami, including the three positions of “designated player” are currently occupied.
