The struggle of Pau Lopez (still under contract with OM)…

After 127 matches in all competitions under the tunic, Lopez left OM this summer to join Girona, the club from his hometown. However, the Spanish international goalkeeper (2 caps) has not played a single minute since his arrival at the Catalan club.

After a last rollercoaster season, the former Roma goalkeeper was pushed out this summer with the recruitment of Geronimo Rulli and Jeffrey de Lange. Even if the choice to join Girona, runner-up to Real Madrid last season and qualified for the Champions League this season, seemed like a great opportunity to get back on track, the former Betis Sevilla goalkeeper has still not played a single match under the red and white jersey.

A tough season ahead?

A delicate situation certainly linked to the status of Argentine goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, firmly established in the Catalan goals for 3 seasons now and a great architect of his team’s historic season last year.

As a reminder, Pau Lopez still belongs to Olympique de Marseille since he is only loaned with a non-obligatory purchase option of 6.5 million euros to the Catalan club. He could therefore, if the situation remains as it is, return to the Canebière much earlier than expected.
