Movistar’s documentary on Luis Enrique’s first season at PSG allows you to get up close and personal with the Spanish coach, including when he pulls up Kylian Mbappé’s straps. A strong scene which provoked multiple reactions in Spain, including among the legends of Real Madrid.
The extract revealed by Movistar caused a lot of noise. The Spanish media, which produced a documentary on Luis Enrique’s first season at Paris Saint-Germain, broadcast an extract in which we see the Spanish coach debriefing with Kylian Mbappé the French striker’s match against FC Barcelona. The tone is dry, even aggressive, and the instructions flow (see elsewhere). Kylian Mbappé sits nicely on his channel and doesn’t dare say a word. The extract provoked multiple reactions among PSG supporters, but well beyond.
In Spain, we obviously watched this extract with relish and on the side of Real Madrid, we believe that the broadcast of this private discussion between Luis Enrique and Kylian Mbappé had no interest, other than that of publicly humiliating the captain of the French team. Former iconic player of the Merengue club, Guti reacted to the broadcast of this extract. Asked by The Chiringuitothe former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder attacked Luis Enrique and PSG for broadcasting this humiliating discussion for Kylian Mbappé.
Guti defends Kylian Mbappé
“I might enjoy that but…things don’t need to come out.” I don’t know, it’s like you’re putting him down in a way. You can tell him in private. When chatting with a player, you can speak this way as a coach, whether with Kylian or another player. But making it public in a documentary seems ugly to me. I think it’s ugly. It’s a good thing you can tell them that, because ultimately, it’s true. It’s not enough to attack, it’s not enough to score goals… but spreading it seems like a mistake to me. If I was Kylian, I wouldn’t have let them take him out.” commented Guti, who would not have liked, when he was a player, for such an extract concerning him to be broadcast.
For the former Real Madrid player, the tone used by Luis Enrique with Kylian Mbappé is not shocking… provided that all this remains in the private sphere, which is not the case with this broadcast of the documentary. Kylian Mbappé, in the middle of a legal battle with Paris Saint-Germain, did not react to the broadcast of this extract.
