Serhou Guirassy is satisfied with his debut for Borussia Dortmund, but still sees room for improvement. “I can’t be at 100 percent yet. I need more games for that,” said the 18 million Euro new signing from BVB after his first game for the Westphalians in the 4:2 (3:1) win on Friday against 1. FC Heidenheim.

The former Stuttgart striker was in the starting eleven straight away after recovering from knee problems, but was still without a goal. “I have to get back to my basics now. Three months without a game is a long time,” said the 28-year-old, who was nevertheless praised a lot.

Lots of praise even without goals

“He has brought us a lot: his presence, how many balls he has secured, how often he has been fouled, how well he plays,” said sports director Sebastian KehlCoach Nuri Sahin described Guirassy as a “fantastic footballer”.

What is missing now are the goals. Last season, the striker, who was previously so unlucky in Cologne, scored 28 goals in 28 league games for Stuttgart. Guirassy himself still sees a need for coordination with his new teammates. “We simply need to get to know each other better now,” said the French-born Guinean.

Sports director Kehl is expecting success soon. “He hasn’t even played a test match, he’s just come out of the last few weeks of rehab. It won’t be long before he scores.”
