Serhou Guirassy has made his debut for Borussia Dortmund after a long injury break. Those in charge are delighted.
Dortmund – It was a situation that deserved a goal. 1. FC Heidenheim ran into a counterattack against Borussia Dortmund for the umpteenth time. Then the cross pass came to Serhou Guirassy – and he simply let the ball through. Karim Adeyemi, who was playing superbly, got the ball and stormed towards the goal. Instead of finishing, he wanted to pass it to Guirassy and give him his first goal in his new jersey. However, the man from Guinea was no longer optimally positioned and missed (59th).
Big Kehl praise for Guirassy
Even if an unselfish finish would have been better in this situation, the 4-2 victory shows that debutant Guirassy is already being sought. Sports director Sebastian Kehl raved about the 28-year-old: “He has brought us a lot: his presence, how many balls he has secured, how often he has been fouled, how well he plays.” In fact, it was not noticeable that the attacking tank had only been training so far after his knee injury.
Kehl predicted: “He hasn’t even had a friendly match, he’s just come out of the last few weeks of rehab. It won’t be long before he scores.” Guirassy himself was happy with the result after his first 72 minutes: “We won, that was important. Heidenheim is not an easy team to play against. They had a 6-0 goal lead before the game.” The beginning of the first half was particularly impressive.
Guirassy admits: “I would have liked to score”
While the first two games of the season were a little slow, things seemed to be unleashed on Friday evening in the Signal-Iduna-Park. With Guirassy, coach Nuri Şahin has another valuable option at his disposal. It is easy to see what quality BVB has secured for a relatively low price of €17.5 million. Guirassy admitted: “The most important thing is the team, even though I would have liked to have scored. Not playing for three months is a long time.” It will take a little more patience until the 28-goal striker from last season can fully develop his potential.
