Girona suffered its second defeat in the Champions League this Wednesday, on matchday 2 by 3-2 against a Feyenoord that punished the Catalans’ mistakes to take the victory.

The crowd at the Montilivi stadium thought they were at the beginning of a night of celebration when defender David López put the locals ahead (19), but the joy did not last long: a goal against their goal by Venezuelan Yangel Herrera (23) and a goal by Antoni Milambo (33) served to come back, and despite the provisional tie by Donny van de Beek (74), the Dutch secured the victory with another unfortunate own goal by Ladislav Krejci (79).

Girona, which lost on the first day against Saint-Germain, has not yet opened its points tally, and will have to get oil on the third day of the reception of the modest Slovakian Slovan Bratislava.

Feyenoord also started the competition with a defeat, defeated in Rotterdam 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen. The result in Girona brings the Dutch closer to the middle of the league stage before visiting Benfica in three weeks.

In the other match played in the first round on Wednesday, Atalanta, current champion of the Europa League, beat Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0, in a match played in the German city of Gelsenkirchen.
