At the end of his contract with Aviron Bayonnais, international scrum-half Maxime Machenaud (27 caps) does not know what his future will hold. The Basque club would like to keep him, but his profile would interest the ambitious Brive club.
Despite his 35 years, the impeccable physical condition that Maxime Machenaud strives to maintain allows him to still be number one in the ranks of Rowing Bayonnais, ahead of Baptiste Germain and Guillaume Rouet. The proof is that the ex-Racingman started the Sunday evening match between his team and Stade Français. Machenaud therefore has a total of ten appearances, including six as a starter. However, the contract linking the Basque club to the scrum half will expire next June, and the question of his future remains unresolved.
On the side of Bayonne's leaders, we would be more inclined to extend the international's contract, but only for one season. Machenaud, for his part, would prefer a two-year lease to extend as much as possible his career marked by a French championship title with Racing in 2016 or three European finals in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
Brive interested, what about La Rochelle?
A proposal that, according to our information, the Brive club would have sent him. Currently fourth in Pro D2 with 28 points and a comfortable lead over Béziers (fifth, 21 points), CAB is still in a good position to compete in the final phases and poses as a legitimate contender to move up to the Top 14. The profile of the Bayonnais would be of interest the Brivist club which is looking for a reliable scorer to strengthen itself.
So will Machenaud pack his bags for Corrèze? For the moment, nothing has been done. One last club could enter the equation: Stade Rochelais. For what ? Because there will be movement at the scrum half position, with the already recorded departure of Tawera Kerr-Barlow to Stade Français, and the arrival of Nolann le Garrec from Racing. In difficulty for several months, Teddy Iribaren could have desires elsewhere. In this case, Machenaud could be the perfect complement to Nolann le Garrec, bringing his experience to the position.
