According to our information, Pita-Gus Sowakula will extend his contract with Clermont in the coming weeks. The New Zealand third row could even commit to the next two seasons.
After having animated the market, Clermont secured its assets. According to our information, Pita-Gus Sowakula will very soon extend with ASM. A two-year extension is currently being considered and could be signed by the former Waikato Chief. At the end of his contract with the Auvergne club at the end of the season, the New Zealand flanker had not hidden his desire to stay with the Jaunards a few weeks ago.“I want to stay but it will be up to the leaders to decide if I continue or if I have to leave. If I have the opportunity to stay one or two years here, I will take it. I love France, I love the city and I love the supporters” had notably declared the third line of Clermont during the international break.
Arriving in Clermont in November 2023, the former All Black (2 selections) experienced some difficulties in showing his full potential with ASM. The adaptation to the Top 14 was not easy but today, Sowakula has a string of high-level matches as evidenced by his last two outings against Bordeaux-Bègles and Lyon. Powerful and technical with the ball in hand, “PGS” brings to his staff a profile that he will almost be the only one to have next season, within the Auvergne third line.
Yato leaves, Morabe will not come
Car Perpignan announced this week the arrival of Peceli Yato for the next two seasons. X factor par excellence of the Clermont forward pack, the Fijian will leave a void as his qualities of explosiveness and impact are no longer to be demonstrated. In this context, the extension of Sowakula appeared as much for a need to keep a similar profile. Work on the third line has therefore begun since Fritz Lee, Alexandre Fischer and Marcos Kremer are also at the end of their contract but their fates have not yet been resolved.
In South Africa, the fate of Keke Morabe is unfortunately sealed. Powerful Stormers number 8 extended until 2028 with Cape Town franchise while rumors were reporting contacts between the yellow and blue club and Morabe in recent weeks.
