La Vétrozaine delivered a demonstration in the second round of the Flachau slalom to win her second career victory and regain the red jersey of the discipline. Wendy Holdener joined her on the podium in 2nd place. Mélanie Meillard finished in a frustrating 5th place.
It remained thrilling until the last second. In the end, Camille Rast’s demonstration was confirmed: the Valaisanne won her second slalom victory in Flachau, just ahead of Wendy Holdener. Mélanie Meillard finished just off the podium, 5th.
La Vétrozaine, having taken a liking to the podium, is clearly no longer satisfied with 4th places like in Semmering and Kranjska Gora. Eighth after the first round, the 25-year-old champion did everything in the second to finish on the box. A little scare at the top barely slowed her down and she flew the rest of the route, light as a feather but fast as lightning. The kind of performance that brings victory. Errors on the part of the big favorites, including the leader of the first round, the Austrian Katharina Liensberger, also left her the field open. Camille Rast triumphs for the second time this season.
Wendy Holdener and Mélanie Meillard so close
In the first round, it was Wendy Holdener who was in the lead of the Swiss and she again delivered a solid second run, but it was not enough to catch up with her colleague. After Kranjska Gora, the Schwyzoise had to settle for 2nd place again, 0″16 behind Camille Rast. Funny detail: it is almost the same podium as in Killington, except that another Swede, Sara Hector, this time finished 3rd.
In the Valais duel, Mélanie Meillard also had a lead over Vétrozaine after the first round, but once again she failed in 5th place. Her gesture of frustration at the finish spoke volumes: the skier from Hérémence wants more. A very good sign as there is only one slalom left before the World Championships in Saalbach.
Michelle Gisin, having announced on Tuesday that this slalom would be the last of her career, crossed the finish line with a big smile on her face and let herself be celebrated by the public and her teammates, 12 years almost to the day after having scored his first points in the discipline at Flachau in 2013. His 23rd place in the end was a detail. The Obwalden now wants to concentrate on the other three disciplines. Aline Höpli, 24th, scores points for the 2nd time.
