Goodbye to aging seats, and hello to the latest technologies in the cinematographic world. From February 2026movie buffs will be able to enjoy a brand new Megarama complex at the Ulis 2 shopping center. In fact, the first stone of this large-scale project was laid this Monday, January 13, 2025.
A room equipped with IMAX technology
In the amount of 11 million eurosthis new cinema will take place in the parking lot located in front of door 5 of the shopping center, near the bus station. It will have 1,400 seats spread across 9 rooms, including a Horizon-THX room with exceptional sound and visual qualities, and another which will be equipped with IMAX technology.
This new site will also be equipped with to technologies including GRETA for people with hearing and/or visual disabilities while being accessible to people with reduced mobility.
“This complex will replace the current 4-screen cinema managed by UGC, the operation of which we will resume from Saturday February 1, 2025. This cinema will include a 400 m² reception hall followed by a corridor which will serve all 9 rooms,” explains Olivier Labarthe, deputy general manager of the Megarama group.
A goal of 300,000 entries per year
“It was a long-term job carried out in particular by the former municipality. It's a real pleasure for me today to lay this first stone, because this project has been the source of many disillusionments and concerns. UGC was to carry this project and finally gave up. It is therefore Megarama which has taken over, explains Clovis Cassan, the mayor of Les Ulis. The launch of this work represents a strong moment for the influence and attractiveness of the town of Les Ulis, by offering above all a new leisure offer to our residents. It is also part of a more coherent urban planning approach, reinforcing continuity with our urban park and our city heart. »
The old cinema, which was founded at the same time as the shopping center in the 1970s, only had 700 seats in 4 rooms. The establishment even struggled to function with less than 200,000 entries per year.
“The opening of this new complex will bring a real plus at the shopping center. We hope to achieve more than 300,000 entries per year, explains Pierre-Marie Battesti, director of development in France at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. In addition to the opening of this cinema in 2026, we wish to further develop the catering offer within the center.”
