Certain sectors will need to be monitored. Forecast.
Surprise snow
The rather surprising aspect of this snow in Quebec is due to the fact that it is not a well-organized system. It is rather an atmospheric trough and particularly wintery conditions which are at the origin of the precipitation which is raging these days. By Wednesday morning, certain sectors would be struggling with a so-called convergence zone which risks generating larger quantities. In addition, the wind and cold contribute to difficult road conditions. Certain sections should be monitored: highways 10, 15, 20 and 40 in greater Montreal, Montérégie and Estrie.
Moderate winds
Even if the winds are only moderate, they could cause trouble. A risk of blowing snow is associated with gusts which could blow at more than 40 km/h in places. With cold temperatures, highly volatile snow may significantly reduce visibility. The situation will need to be monitored on Wednesday morning.
Aggravating factor
Cold temperatures are an aggravating factor regarding snow accumulations and deterioration of road conditions. In fact, when the mercury falls below -10°C, a little snow can make the roadway extremely slippery. Caution will therefore be required on Wednesday morning.
Up to 40cm
The Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie sectors along the coast could receive up to 40 cm by Thursday. For the south of the province, notably greater Montreal, Montérégie, Estrie and Bois-Francs, 10 to 25 cm are anticipated. Up to 30 cm could accumulate in Saguenay. Note that accumulations could vary depending on location due to the great influence exerted by the winds.
