La Rochelle: experimentation with 14 “stop” signs over 500 meters annoys motorists: News

town hall has installed 14 “stop” signs over a distance of 500 meters, or one sign every 35 meters. An experiment which greatly displeases local residents.

Enough is enough. Since the start of the school year, La Rochelle town hall has installed a system of 14 “stop” signs over 500 meters on part of Avenue de Fétilly in order to reduce traffic speed. Problem: this experiment, which should last six months, is already irritating residents, relays BFMTV. Its residents find the measure a little “excessive”: “It’s a permanent nuisance, it slows down and it clutters the avenue.”

The future of panels soon in question

If the town hall welcomes the first positive effects of the installation of the 14 “stop” signs, the future of this experiment will be discussed at the end of March during a public meeting: “The rated speed has really dropped” underlined Christophe Berthaud, deputy mayor of La Rochelle on the continuous news channel.

Despite everything, these 14 panels are displeasing: “it's a disaster” for this tobacconist from Avenue de Fétilly, who shared her dismay in Sud Ouest last December. Due to bad press, this installation could experience the same fate as that of the panels put up in in May 2023. On the ten “stop” signs which had been installed over 200 meters, eight had been stolen.
