Morocco: new rise in tomato prices

Morocco: new rise in tomato prices

Tomato prices have risen further in the Kingdom’s markets. The price per kilo now fluctuates between six and seven dirhams, which has angered consumers who were expecting a drop in prices.

Contacted by Le Site info, a professional in the sector indicated that weather conditions and exports to foreign markets led to this increase.

“Professionals are not against exports to Africa but we demand its regulation and rationalization. Foreign markets have always had strict requirements for importing vegetables from Morocco. These requirements cover several aspects, including product quality, food safety, packaging, and compliance with environmental and social standards. This is not the case for African countries which do not have import conditions, which affects local supply and drives up vegetable prices,” explains our source.

And to emphasize that the prices of most vegetables have increased at the start of the year.
