Brazilian drummer Eloy Casagrande opened up about his experience with Slipknot in an interview for the magazine's January 2025 issue Modern drummer. Recruited in late 2023, he explained why joining the group was a dream come true and discussed the circumstances of his audition and his first concert with the group.
A natural transition after Sepultura
Casagrande, who left Sepultura in early 2024, just before the group's 40th anniversary farewell tour, saw Slipknot as the perfect opportunity to continue his career. “When I got the call from their manager for an audition, it seemed natural to me, especially after Sepultura's decision to quit”he explains. “I grew up listening to their music, and playing with them was an experience I wanted to have.”
The hearing, held in the greatest secrecy, took place in California over a period of ten days. Casagrande had to perform emblematic pieces of the group like Eyeless, Purity et Gematriabefore participating in full rehearsals with the group.

A dream come true
During his first concert with Slipknot, Casagrande remembers a surreal moment: “I had this mask on my face and I was like, 'This is really happening. Oh my God.'” His passion and respect for the legacy of Joey Jordison, the band's original drummer, was also praised by the band members.
Guitarist Jim Root said: “Eloy has shown a lot of respect for Joey and understands the importance of his legacy. His humility and passion are contagious. He fits perfectly into the group.”
A well-deserved recognition
In December 2024, Casagrande was voted best Metal drummer of the year in the readers' poll of Modern drummer. His nomination and integration into Slipknot was also celebrated in Brazil, where the event was compared to winning the World Cup.
