A Brazilian court has instructed police to investigate an Israeli soldier currently visiting the country on suspicion of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip, according to a Hebrew channel.

Israel’s privately-owned Channel 12 reported Sunday that “the decision was taken following a complaint filed by a Brussels-based anti-Israel organization that works to prosecute Israeli soldiers around the world.”

According to the complaint filed by the pro-Palestinian organization Hind Rajab (based in Belgium), the soldier “was involved in the demolition of a residential building with explosives last November, without there being any operational necessity “.

The building was among the houses that sheltered Palestinians who left their homes at the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, according to the channel.

The organization said in the complaint, which runs to more than 500 pages, that it had evidence of the actions committed by the Israeli soldier.

She explained that the evidence was gathered through “open source intelligence,” meaning “probably by looking at this soldier’s social media sites,” according to the same source.

The organization called for the arrest of the Israeli soldier to prevent his flight from Brazilian territory or the destruction of evidence.

The Israeli army is waging a genocidal war against Gaza which has left more than 154,000 victims, including dead and wounded, most of them women and children, since October 7, 2023, despite a UN Security Council resolution. calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces prosecution for genocide in Gaza at the International Court of Justice.
