Shots rang out this Thursday, January 2 in the evening on Avenue de Barcelona in La Paillade. A car was targeted by a shooter who was riding a scooter. One of the passengers in the vehicle died shortly after arriving at the hospital where he was dropped off by a third party. The bullet-riddled car was found near the university hospital.
We know a little more about the circumstances of the shots which rang out this Thursday, January 2 in the evening, around 6:30 p.m. in La Paillade. It was not rue de Salerne as initially indicated but on the perpendicular avenue de Barcelona that the events took place.
The windshield riddled with impacts
“The police officers quickly on site discovered a first person shot in the leg in a parking lot located on Avenue de Barcelona. The injured person was taken care of by the Samu and transported to the University Hospital. Very soon, the police learned that 'a second victim injured in the abdomen had been transported to hospital directly by a third party' specifies the prosecution in a press release.
The man died shortly after being admitted to hospital. He is 33 years old and was known to the police for drug trafficking cases. The second victim, more lightly injured in one leg, is 24 years old.
The victim already convicted of drug trafficking
It appears that he was driven to the hospital by a third person in the targeted car. This vehicle was found near the hospital center. He had several bullet holes in the windshield.
According to information from the prosecution, the two people affected were in the parked car when they were targeted by two men riding a scooter. The two-wheeler was discovered on fire in rue de Leyde, just a few hundred meters from the scene of the shooting. “The context in which the acts were committed suggests that they are linked to a settling of scores, without it being possible to state this with certainty at this time. The flagrant investigation was entrusted to the SIPJ of Montpellier” specifies the prosecution in its press release.
These shootings and this death occur in a neighborhood which has been the scene of several less dramatic incidents but comparable to intimidation operations in recent weeks. Most of them took place around the Saint-Paul shopping center, one of the main deal points at the bottom of La Paillade.
