In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali express sa “live concern following the persistence of certain Algerian authorities to continue the acts ofinterference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Mali, marked by paternalism, condescension and contempt”.

The words of Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs illustrate the content of communiqué 064 of January 25, 2024 by which the Transitional Government already denounced Algeria’s proximity and complicity with the terrorist groups who are destabilizing Mali and to whom it offered room and board while controlling their criminal actions against the civilian populations of Mali and the Sahel, underlines the same source.

“The successes undeniable Armed and security forces of Malias well as the pressure exerted on terrorist groups supported by Algeria are having difficulty getting through to certain Algerian officials, nostalgic for a bygone past,” adds the press release.

The Malian ministry recalls that the strategic options for the fight against armed terrorist groups, supported by foreign state sponsors, fall exclusively within the sovereignty of Mali and the choices of the Confederation of Sahel States. In this matter, Mali “is neither asking nor taking lessons from Algeria, which has led, in the recent past, with complete sovereignty, its fight against terrorism.”

In its press release, the Malian ministry invites Algeria to “refocus its energy on resolving its own internal crises and contradictions, including the Kabyle question, and to stop making Mali a lever for its international positioning.”
