In his New Year’s address, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo took stock of the achievements of 2024 and outlined the outlook for 2025, emphasizing infrastructure development and economic transformation.
The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, delivered his traditional end-of-year speech on Sunday, in which he highlighted the major advances made in 2024 and presented his vision for the year 2025. The head of the State placed particular emphasis on strengthening the country’s international position and developing national infrastructure.
Among the notable achievements, the President highlighted several infrastructure projects, including the improvement of the road network linking Bissau, Bafatá and Gabu, as well as the construction of strategic bridges over the João Landim and Farim rivers. In terms of energy, he highlighted the extension of the electricity network in partnership with the Organization for the Development of the Gambia River (OMVG), and the installation of solar energy in Bolama.
In the field of health, the Head of State underlined the importance of the modernization of the Guinea-Bissau-China Friendship Military Hospital, which he described as “major scientific and technological progress” in the service of all Bissau-Guineans.
Concerning the economic outlook, President Embalo insisted on the need for a structural transformation of the economy, particularly through the development of subsistence agriculture. He stressed the importance of reducing dependence on food imports to better control inflation.
Finally, President Embalo’s speech focuses on youth, whom he considers “bearers of the future of the country”, calling for a reform of the education system and increased investment in scientific training and technological.
