French air forces carried out targeted strikes against Daesh positions in Syria. These actions were confirmed by Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the French Armed Forces, on the “X” networking platform last Tuesday.
Minister Lecornu affirmed France’s continued commitment to the fight against terrorism in the Levant. He specified that since 2014, France has contributed to the international coalition “Operation Inherent Resolve” in Iraq and Syria from 2015.
“Our armies remain committed to the fight against terrorism in the Levant,” Lecornu said, without giving further details on the operation. This information was relayed by our colleagues from the Anadolu agency.
France is participating in Operation “Chammal” supporting Iraqi forces against Daesh. This involvement includes 600 French soldiers, 10 Rafale planes, a frigate, an Awacs plane, a tanker, and a patrol plane.
As part of its commitments in the Middle East, France also contributes to the UN peacekeeping mission on the Israeli-Lebanese border (UNIFIL) with around 700 soldiers deployed.
Minister Lecornu, accompanied by Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is currently on an official visit to Lebanon. They met with General Joseph Aoun, Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Army, for discussions on the regional situation.
These actions reaffirm France’s active role in multinational efforts against terrorism, report our colleagues from Anadolu.
