American car manufacturer Tesla has announced the installation of its V4 Superchargers in China as early as 2025, consolidating its position in the electric vehicle market in the world’s largest automobile market.
These latest generation terminals will offer revolutionary capacities with a maximum charging power of up to 500 kW for electric vehicles and up to 1.2 MW for semi-trailers. These features enable faster charging and better demand management, especially on long journeys.
In addition to increased power, these terminals will incorporate innovations to improve the user experience, such as longer cables for extended compatibility and integrated payment terminals making them easier to use without a dedicated application. V4 Superchargers will also be open to a wider range of vehicles, including those from other brands such as Porsche or Hyundai, strengthening interoperability in the electric ecosystem.

In China, Tesla already has a network of more than 2,000 fast charging stations and 11,500 charging points. The Shanghai factory, key to Tesla’s strategy in the country, produced its first million vehicles in August 2022, crossed the 2 million mark in September 2023, and reached 3 million in October 2024.
With an annual capacity of 950,000 vehicles, this factory represents approximately 40% of Tesla’s overall production, while relying on an ecosystem of local suppliers with a component localization rate greater than 95%.
This expansion takes place in a context of strong competition, particularly with local players like BYD, but also in a global energy transition process.
