Trois-Rivières, December 11, 2024 – A new therapy room was inaugurated at the Trois-Rivières outpatient mental health services center attached to the Integrated University Health and Social Services Center of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec (CIUSSS MCQ). Approximately 1,000 young people aged between 6 and 18 with mental health problems are served annually by the team of professionals at this facility. Depending on their needs, a significant number of young people and their families will be able to benefit from this room during group therapy. Thanks to the valuable support of Bell Let’s Talk, which granted a donation of $10,000 to the Fondation Santé Trois-Rivières as part of its Community Fund, the Foundation was able to finance the furnishings and technological devices of a value over $27,000
New place of comfort and confidences
The scientific literature is unequivocal: group therapies demonstrate concrete results for people with mental health problems. By participating in group therapy, young people can recognize themselves in situations experienced by other people with the same challenges. They can develop a support network and draw inspiration from the stories shared by participants. According to Lucie Laberge, youth mental health psychologist at the CIUSSS MCQ: “Exposure to a group experience will allow you to work on better self-knowledge, better emotional self-regulation and will promote greater self-confidence. All the knowledge acquired within these therapy groups is intended to enable young people to then transpose them into their daily lives. »
Beyond the furnishings and technologies, there will be comfort and reassurance that will allow young people to express themselves with complete confidence in an inviting atmosphere. In this regard, the decoration and configuration of the room were designed to encourage confidences, sharing of experiences and awareness among its participants.
“At the Trois-Rivières Health Foundation, we are convinced that every young person deserves a space that promotes their recovery and development. This project, much more than a room, offers a place of comfort and progress for young people facing mental health challenges. Without the essential support of Bell Let’s Talk, this project would never have seen the light of day. This concrete gesture will truly transform lives in our community,” underlines Nancy Legrow, deputy director of philanthropic development, Fondation Santé Trois-Rivières.
