Four bodies discovered after tourist boat sinks

Rescue workers discovered four bodies and three survivors on Tuesday the day after a tourist boat sank off Egypt’s east coast, Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi said. “Rescue operations are continuing to find nine people still missing,” he added.

Among the survivors are two Belgian tourists and an Egyptian, said the governor, bringing the total number of survivors to 31, while “rescue operations continue to find nine people still missing” out of a total of 44 passengers. The four victims have not yet been identified.

The Egyptian newspaper “Al-Masri al-Jum” reported on Monday that among the passengers were two Swiss. One of the two was able to be rescued, according to “20 Minuten”.

The Sea Story left Port Ghalib, near Marsa Alam, in southeastern Egypt, on Sunday for a multi-day diving expedition. He was due to reach Hurghada, 200 kilometers further north, on Friday.

According to the governorate, the boat, which belongs to an Egyptian national, was carrying passengers from Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, China, Slovakia, from Spain and Ireland.
