President of the National Assembly during the last legislature, Yaël Braun-Pivet (Renaissance) came out on top in the first round of legislative elections on Sunday June 30 in the 5e Yvelines constituency. She ahead of the candidate of the New Popular Front, Yassine Benyettou (27.32%), and the candidate LR-RN and former MP for the constituency (1993-2017), Jacques Myard (22.9%).

As soon as the dissolution of the National Assembly was announced by Emmanuel Macron, Mme Braun-Pivet had distanced himself from the head of state, believing that he “there was another way” possible, such as « coalition » or one “government pact”.

“I got involved thinking that we were going to do things differently; that’s a failure. In France, we cannot get past these partisan quarrels, these party ideologies, it makes me sad”, she lamented the day after the dissolution. During her campaign, the outgoing MP, elected for the first time in 2017, also indicated that she wanted to become President of the National Assembly again: “This is where I am most useful”she had defended.
