Published yesterday at 8:41 p.m.
The accident took place shortly before 6 p.m., at the intersection of Route 139 and 8e rank, in Saint-Théodore-d’Acton, in Montérégie, said the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
“The two pedestrians were allegedly struck while they were crossing an unlit portion of Route 139 to get to their vehicle, which was in the parking lot of a nearby orchard,” explained Ève Brochu, spokesperson for the SQ.
After resuscitation maneuvers, the authorities noted the death of the two sixty-year-olds on site.
The driver of the vehicle, a man in his fifties, was accompanied by a woman in her forties. The two passengers did not suffer any injuries, but the driver was taken to hospital due to nervous shock after the collision, and will be seen by the police when his condition allows.
At first glance, the authorities do not raise any criminal element, reported the SQ. A collision scene investigator still went to the scene to clarify the circumstances of the event.
Route 139 is also closed to traffic in both directions, between 8e and the 9the rank, due to the accident, according to Quebec 511.
