Spotted by Maurice Béjart

Quickly spotted by Maurice Béjart, Julien Favreau joined the ballet a year later, and took on important roles. After the death of his mentor, he continued to take on solo roles and participated in various creations under the artistic direction of Gil Roman.

Last February, he took over the artistic direction of the ballet on an interim basis after the dismissal of Gil Roman. After an audit which revealed sometimes insulting and angry behavior, he committed “the deviation too much” in January at the Opéra Garnier in Paris.

He had invited to the performance and then to the private aperitif with the troupe, the former production director of Béjart Ballet Lausanne, dismissed in 2021 for attitudes and comments relating to sexual harassment. This Friday, RTS revealed the ballet’s accounts showed a loss of one million francs. Positions have been eliminated.
