Leylah Annie Fernandez will be lucky enough to arrive at Wimbledon with a trophy in her hands.

The Quebecer reached the final of the Eastbourne tournament on Friday, following a three-set victory over American Madison Keys. Fernandez recorded the victory with scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3. She will participate in her first final of the season.

“It means a lot to me. I’m very happy and we’ve worked very hard in the last few weeks,” she said on the field after her match.

The Unifolié representative started the final set with a quick break and was able to build a 3-0 lead. She trembled when it came time to serve for the match at 5-3. She allowed four break points to her rival, the fourth seed in the competition, but she held on, saving the last one with a superb forehand winner down the line. Fernandez followed up with the next two points to topple the defending champion.

Fernandez finished the match with 22 winners and 23 unforced errors. That’s still 12 less than his opponent. In addition to his 35 unforced errors, Keys recorded 28 winners.

In the final, she will face the winner of the match between Jasmine Paolini and Daria Kasatkina.
