Questioned on the condition of preparation for the Olympic Games criticized particularly by the African champion Louis François Mendy, the Ministry of Sports did not hesitate to step up to the plate to recall the decree of the former Minister of Sports, Youssoupha Ndiaye and recall the table which establishes and fixes in advance the scale which goes to the athletes who have achieved the best performances in competitions at zonal, continental or international level. The No. 1 technical advisor to the Minister of Sports Mbaye Jacques Diop thus recalled the process put in place by the State in the care of athletes and the rigorous reward grids.

“For international competitions, a form is sent to the Ministry of Finance for the disbursement of money. This form includes transport tickets for international competitions, commitments, accommodation, catering, medical care and allowances for the entire delegation,” he emphasizes. “Beyond that, there are bonuses that are paid that have nothing to do with the allowances. There is a scale for classifying bonuses according to the different competitions. These are the Olympic Games, the world championships, the African champions, the African games, the Francophone games, the zone games, etc.,” he adds. In this context, the ministerial agent also recalled the specific treatment that is now reserved for athletes who will take part in the Olympic Games. “People must know that for several editions, athletes who are qualified for the Olympic Games receive a financial windfall of between 15 and 20 million FCFA in cash. This windfall corresponds to what is called the qualification bonus, the preparation bonus and the participation bonus. Not to mention sports equipment, commitment and international transport. We must also mention the monthly scholarship that the National Olympic Committee (CNOSS) grants to athletes,” he informs.
