NHL trade: Bad news for Kent Hughes

Bad news for Kent Hughes.

Andrew Mangiapane has been traded by the Washington Capitals. The Calgary Flames sent the forward to Washington in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 draft, a pick originally held by the Colorado Avalanche.

This decision marks a new chapter for Mangiapane. The Capitals got a talented forward for not much. This means that Joel Armia is absolutely worthless, much less Christian Dvorak.

If Hughes wants to get rid of them..he’ll have to pay for it himself. It’s amazing how cheap the Caps paid to get such an effective forward.

Mangiapane, 28, recorded 40 points (14 goals, 26 assists) in 75 games with Calgary during the 2023-24 season.

Thirty-six of his points this season have come at even strength, good for third on the Flames in that category.

The 5’10”, 184-pound forward ranked sixth in Calgary in assists, points and rating (+7), and tied for sixth place in goals.

Additionally, Mangiapane generated 72 high-danger scoring chances, the most advanced stat, which placed him first on the team.

Mangiapane, who has reached the 40-point mark in the last three seasons, had his best season in 2021-22 with 55 points (35 goals, 20 assists).

In 417 career NHL games with Calgary, Mangiapane has accumulated 215 points (109 goals, 106 assists).

Additionally, he recorded 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 27 playoff games. Mangiapane was selected by the Flames in the sixth round (166th overall) during the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Internationally, Mangiapane represented Canada at the 2021 and 2024 IIHF World Championships, winning a gold medal in 2021.

During the 2021 tournament, the Toronto, Ontario native scored seven goals in seven games, leading to him being the top scorer and being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

And he’s only worth a vulgar 2nd round pick in 2025 (at the end of the 2nd round since he belongs to Colorado.

Imagine for Armia and Dvorak…

It hurts…
