Diamniadio, June 27 (APS) – Senegalese singer Oumar Pène announced Thursday in Diamniadio, in the department of Rufisque, his intention to erect in Dakar “a climate academy” which he presented as a place for ” inform, exchange and act on the climate”.

“I would like to set up a climate academy in Dakar, a project in collaboration with the city of Dakar. It will be a place to learn, exchange and act on the climate,” he announced during a conference he gave at the Ahmadou Moctar Mbow University in Diamniadio.

The artist-musician was invited, along with Senegalese painter Kalidou Kassé, to host a panel on climate change on the occasion of Environment Day organized by the Regional Center for University Works (CROUS) of Diamniadio and the environment club of this public university.

Oumar Pène assured that his future “climate academy” will be used to organize workshops, conferences, and debates, but also film screenings, exhibitions, events. The structure, according to him, will have an orchard, a library on the climate.

“It will be a free place, open to everyone, especially pupils and students, in order to support them in their studies through training and workshops in educational spaces,” he said.

Shortly before the conference, singer Oumar Pène and painter Kalidou Kassé visited some places on the university’s social campus. They then planted a tree on the social campus grounds not far from the student restaurant.

For his part, the painter Kalidou Kassé called for safeguarding the environment, believing that ”the future of the planet concerns us all”.

He invited all stakeholders to raise collective awareness and make “concrete” commitments to preserve the environment.

The Director of the CROUS of the University, Moussa Hamady Sarr, for his part praised the commitment and desire of the singer Oumar Pène and the painter Kalidou Kassé to support his University in its construction process for quality services .

“We have associated these two great artists with this work of construction of our University for quality services. It is a pride to have them with us,” he stressed, in the presence of several students, notably members of the environmental club, staff of the CROUS of Diamniadio and many environmental activists.
