In a press release, the public prosecutor Annick Browne indicated that the 52-year-old man had admitted the facts and that a criminal judicial investigation had been opened for “violence leading to mutilation or permanent infirmity” with the use or the threat of a weapon.
Hospitalized in serious condition, the victim had numerous injuries noted by a forensic doctor, including “deep wounds to the face and scalp”, as well as fractures to the face and fingers.
In addition, the young woman “irreversibly” lost the use of one eye and had a phalanx amputated.
An attack in a van
As a reminder, the events took place this Sunday morning, shortly before 7 a.m. Informed that a young woman had just been “the victim of an extremely violent attack” on the public highway in a residential area of Châlons-en-Champagne, the police went to the scene of the attack .
According to the first elements of the investigation, the attack took place in a white van, which was then found submerged in a canal, two kilometers from the place where the victim was discovered.
Shortly after the discovery of the vehicle, its owner presented himself to the police station in a state of intoxication to report the theft. He was then placed in police custody, due to several elements incriminating him.
For the moment, the reasons for the attack are still unknown.
