An incident occurred on Friday, November 15 in the morning in the Chronopost sorting center located in Ferrières-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne). A mixture of chemicals caused a release of smoke which inconvenienced several employees, reports The Parisian.
Emergency services, including no less than 70 firefighters and the police, intervened immediately. Several employees who suddenly experienced sore throats, headaches and chest pains were treated but none required hospitalization.
A simple accident
A security perimeter and the 90 employees who were in the area were evacuated, specifies The Marne. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the police station but it quickly turned out that the incident was of accidental origin. Bottles of hydrochloric acid would be involved.
Contained in a package, three of these bottles broke during transport. As the acid flowed, it came into contact with the glue on the labels of other packages, causing the chemical reaction and toxic fumes. The package containing the acid was intended for the scientific center of a university in the department, according to information from the Parisian.
