The “Istanbul Photo Awards”, the international news photography competition organized by Anadolu Agency (AA) to support press photography, is being held for the 11th time this year.

Applications for the 2025 edition of the competition have begun. The deadline for registration for the competition, which can only be done online on the website “www.istanbulphotoawards.com”, has been set for January 10, 2025.

A total of $58,000 will be awarded in the competition for news photographs taken during this year.

Around 20,000 photographs are submitted each year to this event, which is one of the largest competitions in the world. The competition is open only to professional photographers and you do not need to be affiliated with a news organization to enter.

Photographers can enter the competition with photographs deemed worthy of interest taken between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

– The competition includes 10 categories

As part of the competition, applications can be submitted in 10 categories entitled: “nature and environment – ​​series”, “portrait – individual”, “daily life – individual”, “news – individual”, “news – series”, “ sport – individual”, “sport – series”, “nature and environment – ​​individual”, “portrait – series” and “daily life – series”.

The “Photo of the Year” award will be given to the winning photo in the “news – individual” category and the photojournalist who took the photo will receive a $6,000 prize. Category winners will receive $3,000, second place $1,500 and third place $1,000 each.

Each competitor has the right to present themselves in all categories and the photographs submitted do not have to have been published.

Photographers are required to provide accurate information about their personal data and photography details. Detailed information on the conditions for entering the competition is available on the website.

– Winners will be announced on March 2025

As every year, the winners of the competition will be chosen in March next year by an international jury made up of prestigious names from the world of photography.

In this competition, with a total prize pool of $58,000, jury members will evaluate the submitted photographs from different aspects, such as technical skill, perspective, movement and emotion.
