Dakhla – The 14th edition of the Regional Book and Publishing Fair kicked off on Friday evening in Dakhla, at the initiative of the Regional Directorate of Culture of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

Organized with the support of the Directorate of , Libraries and Archives, in cooperation with the wilaya of the region, this cultural event which will continue until November 24, is part of the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the glorious Green March and the 69th anniversary of Independence Day.

Placed under the theme “Reading, the key to knowledge”, this meeting whose guest of honor this year is the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, is marked by the participation of around thirty exhibitors representing national publishing houses, local and national bookstores and institutions concerned with the field of books and reading.

This cultural event is also part of the implementation of the strategy of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Department of Culture) aimed at consolidating the act of reading throughout the Kingdom, to support writers and bring them closer to the general public.

It also intervenes within the framework of the implementation of the annual program of regional book and publishing exhibitions and the integrated development program of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.

Speaking on this occasion, the regional director of Culture in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Mamoun El Boukhari, indicated that this cultural event aims to dedicate the act of reading and bring the book closer to the citizens of the region.

Mr. El Boukhari also indicated that this event is marked by the participation of around thirty exhibitors, in addition to the organization of a series of cultural activities and training sessions.

“Poetic and artistic evenings will also be scheduled during this edition, in cooperation with the Maison de la Poésie de Marrakech,” he continued, noting that this event includes several fun and educational activities for children.

For his part, the director of the AREF of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Mohamed Faouzi, indicated that the Academy’s participation in this Fair is part of the implementation of the 2022-2026 Roadmap , in particular the section relating to the promotion of reading among students.

“Students from schools in the region will have the opportunity to explore the aisles of the Salon, in order to make the most of the books presented and develop their knowledge,” noted Mr. Faouzi.

The kick-off of this cultural event was given by the Secretary General of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, in the presence of elected officials, representatives of local authorities and civil society actors.
