The Montargis public prosecutor’s office opens a preliminary investigation after racist comments in “Envoyé Spécial”

The Montargis judicial court announces this Friday to open a preliminary investigation after the broadcast on Thursday on France 2 of the magazine “Envoyé Spécial”. In this episode dedicated to the legislative elections and the political sensitivities of the French, we discover a black caregiver, Divine, who lives in Montargis and has lived in France for almost thirty years. The latter says she is regularly the victim of racist insults from her neighbors who have posted posters of the National Rally on their house. Divine notably claims to have been treated as bonobo.

In an extract viewed nearly six million times on X (formerly Twitter), we witness a very violent exchange between the caregiver and her neighbors. “We’re at home, we do what we want… go to the doghouse” repeats the neighbor several times in front of the France 2 cameras.

The words and behaviors observed may be criminalized as public and non-public insults of a racial nature, public incitement to discrimination and violence without racial incapacity. writes Jean-Cédric Gaux, the Montargis prosecutor, in a press release. The maximum penalty incurred for these offenses and contraventions is three years of imprisonment and 45,000 eurosspecifies the prosecution.
