It was certain. Swiss watchmaking was going to experience a terrible winter. For the mid-range, the game was over, the smartwatch was going to take everything. In reality, there has been a decline in everything that is not a luxury watch, but the prophecy has not come true. It could even be that the watchmakers of the Jura Arc take a famous revenge on the electronic watch. By giving it a future, perhaps even gaining leadership over the quartz that had so cruelly strangled them 50 years ago. And this return to light could well be triggered by solar energy.

The sector is currently agitated by a real race for equipment. Three manufacturers are in the running: Swatch Group – through Tissot and its subsidiary Nivarox –, the La Joux-Perret factory – owned by the Japanese Citizen, in La Chaux-de-Fonds – and the Basel manufacturer Ronda. Everyone is moving forward in their own way, mapping out the future “Swiss made” solar quartz watch.
