The Bol.com online store will now offer used smartphones, tablets, laptops and smartwatches. These devices will still benefit from a two-year warranty.
From November 13, you will be able to find not only new electronic devices, but also refurbished devices on Bol.com. In this case, these will be used devices which will be offered for sale again. To this end, the company will collaborate with four firms: Fixje, Forza, Leapp and Renewd. They will check the devices on more than fifty points, but they will also update them, clean them and repair them if necessary.
These checkpoints include the camera, screen or battery, which will have to offer at least 85 percent of their original capacity to be able to be resold. The devices will also receive a new charging cable. Bol.com indicates that customers will be able to return any device with which they are not satisfied within thirty days. In addition, as with new products, they will benefit from a two-year warranty.
A prominent player in a niche market
Bol.com wants to focus on sustainability with its reconditioned offer. The company reports that many customers want to consume more sustainably, but don’t always take the necessary steps to get there. ‘Our size – we reach more than 13.6 million consumers each year – allows us to make a real difference by making these products and their benefits more widely known,’ explains Oscar Hundman, Chief E-commerce Officer.
‘By now only allowing products from hand-picked partners, we are ensuring that customers will receive high-quality, value-priced devices that have been thoroughly tested and are backed by a warranty.’
The refurbished market has been around for a while now, but the arrival of Bol.com as a prominent retailer could potentially give it a boost in the Benelux. Players such as the Finnish Swappie have been active in our country for several years, but only focus on iPhones. Two years ago, Test-Achats was also positive about the quality of refurbished iPhones.
Refurbished equipment is also appearing on the business market. The IT reseller Dustin announced in 2022 that it was offering second-hand network equipment from Cisco, with the support of Cisco itself.
Bol.com affirms that thanks to its positioning, it wishes to conquer a ‘strong place’ in the reconditioned landscape within three years. But she does not cite any figures or market share. Refurbished devices have been successful for some time now, for reasons of durability, of course, but also because they represent a practical way to purchase at a lower cost high-end equipment released at a higher price. 1 to 2 generation(s) ago. However, Bol.com does not provide any information on the prices of refurbished devices.
