Jazz mourns the departure of Bruntrutain Jacky Milliet

It was during his studies in Porrentruy and Lausanne that he made his debut in music, says Nicolas Milliet, son of the famous Bruntrutain jazz clarinetist Jacky Milliet, who fell asleep peacefully at his home on Sunday. The musician, who learned the trade through contact with many big names in jazz, gave his last concert at Inter in September 2022 with his quartet, opening the screening of the interview that Patrick Ferla gave him in his Fixed Plans.
A career that starts at 35
After his studies in pharmacy, his work and his family took him away from his instrument for a while, which he then played in a group, Los Escolares. “One day, a representative passionate about jazz put him in contact with the American clarinetist and saxophonist Albert Nicholas,” explains his son. “It was at that moment that he took up music again and progressed a lot. He was 34 or 35 years old.” A first concert was given at Inter at the end of the 1960s. It was a total success, with nearly 800 people present, underlines Nicolas Milliet, who evokes the Jura musicians with whom he played in his early days: Eric Weibel, Vino Montavon, Bernard Moritz and Pierre Etique.
